Rethinking Idaho Landscapes is a one-day horticultural symposium hosted on Saturday, February 28 from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Boise Centre. Experts offer design tips for small gardens, outdoor living spaces, and recommendations for plants suited to Idaho's climate and soils.
Keynote Speaker Billy Goodnick presents- Design Like a Pro
Many garden books entice buyers by boasting "thousands of plant listings!" But who has room in their garden for all of them? Like everyone else, gardeners like to get the most out of the money they spend. This lively workshop demystifies the process professional designers use to create beautiful, useful, sustainable gardens so you can "purchase with purpose." The take-aways? Increased confidence in your design skills and increased desire to tackle your own yard
Evelyn Hadden presents- Hellstrip Gardening: Paradise at the Curb
The Treasure Valley's summer-dry climate makes waterwise designs particularly appealing for parking strips and along driveways and alleys. Evelyn lays out strategies for addressing common challenges including street trees, poor soil, laws and covenants, unsightly equipment, pedestrian traffic, and more. She showcases creative solutions and highlights curbside-worthy plants. Take steps to improve our shared environment and your own life--dive in and design a hellstrip garden!
William Habblett presents - Let's Update Your Irrigation!
It isn't necessary to replace your whole irrigation system to update the system for water efficiency. From replacing your irrigation controller with a Smart Controller to replacing the spray system in your shrub beds to drip, it can be alldone with a little time. This seminar will introduce you to different materials that you can use in your landscape to improve water efficiency, one zone at a time.
Ariel Agenbroad presents- Sustainable, Edible Landscapes for the Treasure Valley
Take a visual, virtual tour through the steps of planning, planting and maintaining a beautiful, environmentally-friendly edible landscape suitable for Southwest Idaho's unique growing conditions. Whether starting a new landscape from scratch or converting a mature site, learn how to use commonly available plants in novel ways, and explore new plants that fit seamlessly into traditional designs. Cultivating vegetables, fruits and herbs successfully in containers will also be discussed.
