Description:
April 14-16, 2016
Boise State University Main Campus
In April, printmaking artists from across western North America will meet in Boise to celebrate their diverse but interconnected experiences inspired by the landscape in which they live and work. The three-day event features panels, lectures, workshops, exhibitions, print exchanges and plenty of networking. Activities for the artists range from informative workshops ("Foilography" taught by Boise's Amy Nack of Wingtip Press) to in-depth panel discussions ("Hybrid Cultures and Appropriation as a Socio-Political Artistic Tool" led by Turkish-born Serhat Tanyolacar) and lectures ("Tulare Lake: An Unexpected Collaborative Cartographic Printmaking Exploration" given by Matthew Rangel from the University of New Mexico). University of Montana's Professor Elizabeth Dove, a printmaking and photography artist specializing in non-toxic processes, is this year's keynote speaker. Two Friday evening events are open to the public: the Opening Reception and Watershed Print Exchange (4:00-6:00) in Albertsons Library and the keynote speech (7:00) in Scaggs Hall in the College of Business and Economics building.
The Rocky Mountain Printmaking Alliance was established to foster education, promote communication and create community between academic professionals, independent presses and individual artists within the region. Through outreach and education, the Alliance serves to strengthen connections, encourage discussion and advance regional awareness surrounding the varied art and artists of printmaking.
