Genre Films of the 1930s
6:30 PM
Boise Public Library
Description:
Boise Public Library is pleased to present a monthly screening of films popular in the 1930s, including examples of the swashbuckler genre, musicals, gangster films and pre-code cinema.

March 16, Marion Bingham Room: In this classic example of the gangster movie genre, three men return from WWI and build a bootlegging empire during Prohibition, until love and rivalry interfere. James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart and Priscilla Lane star in this 1939 crime thriller.

April 20, Hayes Auditorium: Marian Marsh and Warren Williams star in this risque 1932 pre-code comedy/romance about a "plain Jane" secretary who replaces a femme fatale because her new boss is distracted by beautiful women. Pre-code Hollywood films were produced in the uncensored film era between the introduction of sound in the late 1920s and the enforcement of the Motion Picture Production Code (Hays Code) censorship guidelines in mid-1934.

Due to performance license restrictions, please visit www.boisepubliclibrary.org/calendar for movie titles, or call 972-8255. Screenings are on the third Wednesday each month, and run from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Main Library at 715 South Capitol Boulevard.
